Clayworks Membership

You don’t need to have a membership to create with clay at HOTplate. But – if you’re a clay artist and you need studio space – come hang with us! We offer day and week passes, monthly memberships, community kiln firing, and more.

What is the Clayworks Community?

Membership in the Clayworks Community is ideal for those who have some experience and prefer independent work time. It provides open use of our studio and studio equipment.

Studio Members play a significant role in enriching the diversity of the studio and being part of a vibrant community, just by being you!

There is no work requirement of studio members, as studio staff will handle all firings and maintenance, but members are welcome to learn more about the clay process by helping studio staff when the opportunity arises.

They are also expected to follow the studio guidelines to keep a clean, respectful, and welcoming studio for others.

Membership Includes:

Access to what you need like:

• 24 hour access to the studio, using your personal keypad code
• Use of tools and equipment including: full-size slab roller, extruder, texturing tools, pottery wheels, work tables, bats, wareboards and plastic
• Range of lowfire and midfire glazes, including: rainbow of underglazes, specialty low-fire brush-on glazes, low-fire clear dipping glaze, dozens of mid-fire brush-on glazes.
• We will work with Clayworks Members to determine the demand for 4-6 midfire shop dipping glazes as the need arises.

Clay is purchased separately, and includes all necessary glazing & firing in initial price:

• Regular Clay Stock: ^05/06 Laguna white earthenware, ^5/6 Laguna B-mix (white stoneware, with and without grog)
• On-Demand Stock: ^05/06 terra-cotta, ^5/6 KM Brown Bear, ^5/6 KM Kota Porcelain
• Mud Club - your 6th 25# bag of clay is FREE
• Join the HOTplate Loyalty program to enroll
• If you do the work to reclaim studio clay, it is FREE. (Firing fees apply)

Have a different clay you like to use?

• Reasonably priced firing fees for outside clay (view online shop for up-to-date fee schedule)

Work is fired in electric kilns. At this time, members must work in lowfire or midfire clay (up to cone 6).

Only Clayworks studio techs will fire kilns, due to insurance and liability reasons. If you would like to learn more about the firing process, you are welcome to talk with our studio techs and arrange a time to watch and learn the process.

Monthly

• $175 per single month

• $80 for any 7 consecutive days

Day Pass

• Full access during building open hours (9 AM - 9 PM)
• $15 per day

Community Artists

• Don’t need workspace, just need a kiln?
• We offer kiln rental and firing for fused glass or clay up to Cone 6.
